Eagle Boys is funding the work of Hayley Smithers-Sheedy who is a research officer with the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register (ACPR). The ACPR aims to further understand the causes of cerebral palsy. Hayley’s role is to integrate data from each state register for multiple research based purposes. These include monitoring the incidence and prevalence of cerebral palsy; gaining a better understanding of the causes of CP; evaluating preventative strategies, and helping to plan services for children and adults for a better quality of life.
Hayley initially studied for a Bachelor of Applied Science Speech Pathology at Sydney University. Later she completed a Masters of Public Health with distinction at the University of Wollongong. She has worked in the field of cerebral palsy (CP) for more than 15 years in both clinical and research capacities.
Additionally, Hayley will commence her Masters of Research with Sydney University in March where she hopes to combine her work with the ACPR and studying cytomegalovirus, one of the known causes of cerebral palsy.
